Startup Mahakumbh: Innovation & Collaboration

Recently a celebration of Innovation & Collaboration: Startup Mahakumbh, a first-of-its-kind event in terms of vision and magnitude, was organized from March 18th to March 20th, at the iconic Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. I attended the event with my team and the feeling of being a part of such an event is always motivating and exciting.

Let me walk you through some of the important parts of Startup Mahakumbh.

Witnessing entrepreneurs gathered all in one place for this transformative journey was very interesting to watch. The event had participation from more than 1000 high-potential startups from India and the globe, with key global and Indian stakeholders such as unicorn startups, global and domestic venture capitalists, corporates, and industry leaders.

What made it more interesting was the Exhibition!

In each of the Pavilions, they had selected a Startup Booth/POD available for startups and other groups to display.

With a room full of budding entrepreneurs, we delved into the learnings and experiences of the founders and many renowned people all around.

On the third and the final day of ‘Startup Mahakumbh’, Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed entrepreneurs and stakeholders. The prime minister acknowledged the role of events like Startup Mahakumbh in giving further impetus to the country’s rapidly growing startup ecosystem.

Some of the important insights from PM were:

“Today, when the nation is working on the goals set for 2047, events like Startup Mahakumbh hold specific significance. In the last (few) decades, India has left a mark in the IT and software sectors. Now, we are seeing the rise of innovation and startup culture in India.”

The prime minister said that India now has the third-largest startup ecosystem in the world and the country is home to 1.25 Lakh startups. These startups, he said, employ nearly 12 Lakh people.

About the event, Modi said, “It is ‘Mahakumbh’ in the truest sense with the entire startup ecosystem coming together. The event has brought together current as well as aspiring entrepreneurs. The startup exhibition seems to be that of unicorns and decacorns of tomorrow. India has emerged as the new hope for global startup space.”

Talking about the rapid advances in the space of artificial intelligence (AI), Modi said it will provide opportunities to young entrepreneurs. He also said that India will have an upper hand in the AI space.

The Indian Angel Network gave a chance to many emerging startups by going one-to-one to various startups for funding opportunities and many visited their booth.

At the Startup Mahakumbh, there were about 40,000 business visitors, over 1,000 investors, 5,000 aspiring entrepreneurs, and almost 1,000 businesses. The occasion highlighted innovative businesses from throughout India and contributed to the country’s entrepreneurial boom. It gave startups priceless chances to strengthen their networks and take their next significant steps.

Concluding my and my team’s experience I would like to say that:

“We begin to learn wisely when we’re willing to see the world from other people’s perspective.”

It was truly great to learn about valuable insights and experiences of navigating through the fundraising journey, learnings, mistakes, and endless opportunities. I will carry all the learnings and different perspectives with me.

Here’s to learning from the shared experience and paving the way for the startup dreamers!
